James Patterson - The "Alex Cross" Series

I recently started reading the Alex Cross series by James Patterson and began with anticipation......he is afterall a bestselling author! No doubt, the books do draw you in and at times are close to impossible to put down but now after reading the 13th book of the series I'm beginning to get bored. Will he quit his job or won't he? yes, no, yes, yes, no , maybe........
Is the killer going to hunt his family down or won't he?
Who is going to die next? Who is the killer?
Although I don't want to be too belittling because there are some brillant twists and some astounding betrays of the human being.
I wonder if this boredom is due to the fact that I am reading the novels too quickly or if there are too many repeated patterns in the series  or  if the books are better read with a margin of time rather than read all together in a clump.......

The order of reading for the Alex Cross series is:
1. Along Came a Spider
2. Kiss the Girls
3. Jack and Jill
4. Cat and Mouse
5. Pop! Goes the Weasel
6. Roses Are Red
7. Violets Are Blue
8. Four Blind Mice
9. The Big Bad Wolf
10. London Bridges
11. Mary Mary
12. Cross
13. Double Cross
14. Cross Country
15. Alex Cross's Trial (with Richard DiLallo)
16. I, Alex Cross
17. Cross Fire
18. Kill Alex Cross

What type of novels are these? The Alex Cross series is a detective series that are full of mystery, suspense and could be described as thrillers.

UPDATE:

I have come to the conclusion that the Alex Cross books are better read in small segemtns, for instance, a chapter or two in a sitting. I have found this to make the plot a lot more pleasureable.
